Youth Advisor Con aka Holy Cow Trip

I went to Rockford, IL with the Fellowship YRE director for a Youth Advisor Con. She needed a Senior High Youth Advisor and since I can't do OWL because my daughter will be in the next class I figured this was a great opportunity to try something new and hang out with some great young adults.

The trip was an adventure to say the least. What should have been 7 hours took 10. A detour off I-35, an accident that turned the highway south of Chicago into a parking lot, and horribly terrifying drivers took their turn trying to drive us nuts! It did allow me to get to know my DRE much better. I already thought her a fantastic person. Now I have even more evidence.

We finally got to our location, accidently going to the church instead of the hotel. When we finally got to the hotel we found that instead of two beds they gave us one full size. Being full they couldn't move us and no cots could be found, so they say. Not long after midnight, trying to sleep, we heard yelling from the room next door and the sound of a body hitting the wall. I convinced myself not to get involved. I didn't have to. Not long afterwards I heard the unmistakable squawk from a police radio in the hall way. Soon enough we heard voices in the room next door and the words "You are under arrest" came through clearly. It all made for a sleepless night though.

Next day was filled with talk and activities and learning. The next night went much better and we both got some sleep. We headed home a different way, the trip being much much smoother.

I learned a lot at the Con and got to meet some great people along the way. I hope that I can bring the spark that I picked up from this Con to the kids at the Fellowship and they be able to make amazing things happen.
